Credit union update

The Safe and Sustainable Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee have put a great deal of work into assessing the need for, and possible operation of, a credit union for North Yorkshire. Costs and time for set up have been halved by a proposal to join with the existing credit union for York, which would make the resulting organisation one of the largest in the country.

County Councillor Michelle Andrew who is Vice-Chairman of the Committee believes the Credit Union would be a major benefit to many people in the county. ‘With levels of debt increasing nationally people really need a reliable and affordable source of credit,’ she says, ‘We hope that the Council’s executive will approve our recommendation and make this happen.’
